TARGETED ACTION FOR BIRDS
Birds are in trouble. We can do something about it.
We’re a small Minnesota nonprofit that believes helping birds shouldn’t be complicated or intimidating. We talk like real people, focus on what actually works, and give you the tools to make a difference in your own home and neighborhood.

Each of these three threats has dedicated programs designed to make real change—at homes, in neighborhoods, and in communities. Explore our programs to see how you can take action.
Window Collisions and Light Pollution
Over a billion birds are lost each year to window collisions. Most happen during migration, when birds are drawn into lit areas and can’t recognize glass. Minnesota Bird Coalition helps homeowners, businesses, and cities take simple, effective steps to make buildings safer and reduce light pollution.

Outdoor Cats
Across Minnesota, birds face another major threat—domestic cats. Even well-fed pets are natural hunters, and outdoor cats kill billions of birds and small mammals each year. Minnesota Bird Coalition’s Paws by Paws program helps cat owners keep their pets safe, happy, and enriched indoors while protecting wildlife outside.

Habitat Restoration
Across Minnesota, birds are losing the native trees, shrubs, and plants they depend on. But every yard, park, and city corner can help reverse that loss. Minnesota Bird Coalition works with homeowners, neighborhoods, and communities to bring habitat back—yard by yard.
GET ON THE MAP
Birds need safer skies—starting with your windows.
Every year, over a billion birds die from window collisions, and nearly half of those happen on homes. Join our interactive map to show where change is taking flight. Whether you’ve treated one window or your whole house, your action matters—and it inspires others to do the same.
LIGHTS OUT ALERT MINNESOTA
Each spring and fall, millions of birds pass over Minnesota during nocturnal migrations. Light pollution turns this natural journey into a deadly obstacle course. MN Bird Coalition is launching Lights Alert Minnesota, a statewide partnership uniting organizations, cities, and individuals to protect migrating birds. The network will issue real-time alerts on nights of peak migration, urging Minnesotans to turn off unnecessary lights to keep birds safe.
