Join the Lights Out Alert Minnesota Network
We’re building a statewide network of organizations working together to protect migrating birds from light pollution. Every organization, large or small, can make a difference.
Join as an Ally, Regional Lead, or Leader — three levels of involvement designed for every kind of organization ready to make a difference. Of course, feel free to mix and match from each of the categories as well!
Lights Out Ally
Publishes alerts and helps spread the word.
Organizations at this level share Lights Out Alerts created by others through their own social media, websites, and email lists. No monitoring or alert creation is required — just amplify the message to reach more Minnesotans.
Regional Lights Out Lead
Helps activate alerts in your area.
Regional Leads monitor the migration forecast from Purdue’s AeroEco Lab and activate the alert process when high migration is predicted in their region. You will use shared templates to create the alert and distribute it to the statewide network for publication.
Lights Out Leader
Expands the reach and impact of the program.
Leaders not only publish alerts but also help grow the network by recruiting new partners, spreading awareness of the program, and encouraging cities, counties, and building owners to participate.
